Transmission switch

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have a 95 Chev Van 20 with a bad 4L80 transmission. Can it be swapped for a 700R4? It has the bracket for the kickdown cable but what about the wiring harness? Can the needed wiring be used and the rest left unconnected. The van has very very high mileage and probably is not worth fixing but I do have a good 700R4 and would like to buy this van a little more time.

Hmmmm,

As long as your Chevy Van has a 5.7 liter 350 V-8 it should be simple. All you would need is the throttle cable. However, since you have the 4L80-E it is possible you have the 7.4 Liter 454 V-8 and that would require a different bellhousing (The part that bolts to the engine and contains the torque converter).

There are companies that make kits that you plug into the harness so the computer thinks the electronic transmission is still in place. I think the PCM can reprogrammed too.
