NO GAINS with AFE $300 intake!

Recommended Posts

I made back to back dyno runs on a friends 05 suburban with a 6L engine yesterday. As an experiment we wanted to see what one of them fancy AFE stage 2 intake systems would make on the dyne. At a price of over $300 retail I figured it would make something. Much to my amazement there was absolutely no gains over the stock box. With just their air tube to the TB and NO FILTER, I lost 2hp on one test, stuck the stock stuff back on and it was all back.

Just wanted you guys to know, don't expect any Hp gains with one of these and most likely any other air intake systems, as the GM stuff is pretty efficient as is. Oh, I did the back to back tests on my Mustang 600HP DE chassis dyno.

From what I've heard you won't notice anything at first with new trucks 03-04, the comp has to learn what you put on it, and with the extreme TQM they have almot nothing helps, execpt a tune.

wait tell you get about 3k-4k on it, with the AFE and then do the Dyno and see if there is a change

Ahh, but I removed all the TQM from the PCM  I may try the test later on another truck. It would be interesting, just a note with my precision differential pressure sensor, it didn't indicate but a slight dp (<8mmH20) across the factory box using a high flow KN type filter.

I've heard this before.

That the gains are incremental as well.

Was this the only modification to the vehicle ?

I installed a Dynatech Headers SuperMax long tube headers and their dual cat system on this truck. For a cat back I installed a Borla system with their dual in dual out muffler. It sounds awesome :chevy:
