speedo recalibration?

Recommended Posts

I just put 35s on my 2500hd and want to recalibrate my speedo. I took my gps out and it shows 38 mpg when the truck shows 35, it shows 55 when the truck shows 50.

Been thinking of opening up the dash and putting in a new guage face, or cutting up the old gauge face and repositioning it.

Even thinking of glueing on some new numbers to the ip cluster covering.

Anybody ever done this?

How about if you go with Hypertech? It works great! I actually still have mine off my old truck. They go for about $300. That lil computer takes care of everthing. You can change your shifting points, it will resolved the speedometer, also it has a feature to tell the truck that it is running on bigger tires...it goes up to a 37" tire.

Just bought the superchips tuner (much better than the hypertech)

It'll recalibrate up to a 37" tire.

Not to mention the performance increase !

200.00 on ebay ... well worth the money spent !

Just go to the Dealer and ask them to recalibrate your speedo for the taller tires, thats all I did and it only cost me $30.00. Also you must remember that if you don't recalibrate your computer for the taller tires it can effect all other computer commands within your truck like the antilock braking system. It will also save you from spending a bunch of money on a computer programmer. :dupe:

I was just talking to my GMC dealer about this, since I just got bigger tires again. They are not reprogramming computers anymore for tire size changes. Apparently this came from the General and has something to do with legal matters. Luckily, I have a Hypertech PPIII. I have used it maybe 50 times for changing tire size, gear ratio, power tuning, shift points, etc. Only sucky thing is if you need to do computer diagnostics, you have to program back to stock beforehand or the diagnostics come out all weird.

I can understand that but I think it is up to the individual dealer as to whether they will do it for you. From the Generals perspective I can see that they may look at this as a liability issue which makes sense and if they allow their dealers to do this it may open up a can of worms. When I went to my dealer I told them what I was planning on doing and they had no problem adjusting the computer for the taller tires. I guess maybe it depends on the individual dealer. I don't think it would hurt to ask them if they would do this before you go out and spend a bunch of dough on a computer programmer. :chevy:
