s10/ v8

Recommended Posts

I`m thinking about getting a mid 80`s s10 pu and putting a v8 in it.

I`ve been told there is a kit for motor mounts but can`t think

of the name of the place. This truck will be for fun only. on the

weekends. Also 350 or 383 with auto trans.this will be just a basic

truck (no ac man. windows ect.) anybody done this is it worth it. :(

I ve seen it done, you can get a kit from Jegs or summit ( I think) with motor supports and headders for a reasonable price. If you use the Th350 tranny the trans support should work but if you use a th400 you will have to alter it some. And you need a drive shaft. Best of luck. :(

Not only are older s-10s easy to convert, they are cheap too!! I would love to find myself a truck from texas or so with a mint body and trick it out, but times are tight and I need to save up to pay off my truck, the g/f's (soon to be wife) car, and buy a house.

Good luck man, all you need is mounts, maybe electric fans, headers if you desire, and that v-8 book from JTR, (good reading - I reccomend you get it, I bought mine after I did my project, but it is more for older s-10's anyway)

I had this in my 83 S10 ext cab 4wd. I used a kit from R&S racing that is no longer out there. I think they got bought out by someone. I have the headers, mounts and oil pan if you are interested. I have it mounted on a 383 right now, but am selling the engine. I junked the truck due to the body was in real bad shape. The headers are ceramic coated inside and out in black, and have not been run since the coating. The pan is for a 4wd application and has a deep sump, with oil pump and pickup. The oil pump is a Melling high volume. You will also need an oil relocation system, which I have a new Canton racing adapter. brand new. I have not run the engine since it was rebuilt. Let me know if you are interested and I can send pictures and we can talk a price. Only parts to be used previously were the pan and the mounts. You will need a radiator, Be Cool offers one for this. Also need to use a short nose water pump from a Corvette. You can relocate the radiator forwqard in the core support as I did and put your filler in line in the top radiator hose. I had the radiator neck removed to do this. This way I used a standard 4 core S 10 radiator. Needed to make new brackets. Want a good fan as it will get hot. I had a 3 inch body lift, so body mads were not required to get the motor in. I did trim the wheels inner fenders for cooling. I had the motor in for over 200,000 miles as a daily driver. It was a hot sleeper on the street. Off road, great but it liked to sink itself when it broke loose in mud. If you are 4wd need an adapter and output shaft for the tranny. I had a 350, but would have liked a 700R4. Need the big case out of a full size, our from a 4.3 combo.

Let me know what you think.

the s10s are seriously fun w/ 350s!!! do check out jagsthatrun.com, they might have changed their website to v8s10.com as well.

here's what i built, it was a lt1/lt4 conversion, had it running 8.38s in the 1/8th and 13.4s in the 1/4. Never had enough money or time to really get it running right, sold it to a father/son that are really putting money into it and making it right.

also check out s-seriesforum.com, s10forum.com, s-series.org

sanderson, hooker, hedman, makes headers for the swap. I had ceramic coated sanderson shorties, seemed to do the job w/o any problems.
