mass airflow sensors

Recommended Posts

just wondering if anyone has experiences with aftermarket mafs. i was told by a very reputable outfit that removing the screen on the stock maf will help, and is alot cheaper. ive heard people say negative things about descreening the stock units, and my question is why do all the aftermarkek mafs not have screens? if aftermarket doesnt use one than why would my stock one need a screen. do aftermarket mafs really add any power?

some people will tell you that granatelli mafs work. and for some they do. but it has been found in many a test that they lean the fuel system considerably. every truck is different. if you remove the screen from the mass air then the computer will read turbulence going across the wires thus causing the pcm to have some eratic readings. also these pcm's will learn out causing this to be a minimul gain.

the screen is in there to straighten out the airflow so the pcm can get the correct reading. I M O. leave it in there. tuners will tell you they can tune for it and can. but most want to leave it in so the pcm will get the correct reading. :(

it is hard to understand how something that looks so restricting could mess anything up. but i dont claim to be a genius, thats why im asking. also though the people who make the tb spacers with the helix bores in them say that spinning the air makes more power, i would assume that these also create a great deal of turbulance. there is alot i dont understand i guess.

there have been many a debate over the descreening. i can tell you that the pcm will learn it out. though it may seem restrictive it helps out.

the throttle body spacers dont help at all. we have proved that on a dyno with before and after runs.

no problem. you have to ask to find things out. you can gop to ls1tech and there are a lot of discussions on these very things.
