stainless workslong tube headers on 8.1

Recommended Posts

i just had a set of these headers installed on my 2004 2500hd 8.1 allison on tuesday. the headers were nice and offer a lifetime warranty, but they left out some important installation info. First, the front o2 sensors are moved about a foot so it was very difficult see how the o2 sensor wire and sensor would reach. i contacted stainless works and they told me that i could remove some clips that hold the wire harness to the frame and my additional room would be there. i relayed the info to my exhaust guy and he continued. he was able to get them hooked up, but said the driver side was stretched as far as it could go. A solution for this would be to get o2 harness extentions, but i was unable to locate any. but its all hooked up anyway and it does work without them. Second problem is that the steering shaft just barely rubs one of the primary tubes. i believe this is because i went with 1"7/8 primaries. i have yet to contact stainless works about this, and am not sure how im gonna handle this. just wanted to let everyone know what my experience was like. its alot of money to spend and i think insight always helps. if anyone else has had any experience with these headers, please let me know.

Do you like them ?

How do they sound from inside the cab??

Feel a big difference in power or not???

how the milage going??

look at getting a set, in spring.

they are nice headers, except for what i mentioned before. they sound great, i have two small chambered m ufflers, its actually probably too loud for most, but with quieter mufflers im sure it would sound good too. power was not as noticable as i thought it would be, but im getting a westers 93 hot tune to hopefully get everything in order as far as tuning. mileage has not suffered at all, and my foots hasbeen in it most of the time, i just got them a week ago.
