Trans Temps?

Recommended Posts

Generally, with the factory cooler, the trans temp will go around 160° to 190°. Over 200° starts to cause fluid brake-down, forms varnish and starts seals cracking. The higher and longer above 200° the quicker the problems happen.

If your gauge does not move, you are not properly connected. 113° means you could place your hand on the pan and not get burned. I don't think so!

Check your + and - hook-up to the gauge and the wire from the sender to the gauge. Make sure it did not get pinched or is so close to the exhaust that the insulation melted and it's grounding out.

Where did you mount the sender?

I just installed the gm trans guage kit from US SPEEDO,the needle doesn't move off 100 degrees after an hr. of driving.I put an infared guage on the pan and it says 113 degrees. What kind of temps are you guys getting?

That sounds about right....how long/far are you driving it till it gets to that temp?

It has been my experience that the dash gauges have about a 10 degree varience and are not always exact....the US Speedo kit utilizes the temp sensor in the transmission....for example,my voltage gauge on my '95 will read just over 13v, but the AutoMeter Volt. gauge that I also have installed will read over 14v at the same time.... :seeya:

I dont have a newer truck with the Tranny temp gauge so I cant be much help with that......But with my aftermartket gauge with the sensor mounted in my remote oil filter housing and the outside air temp around 50*F my gauge will read around 150*F after a 19mi drive to work in combination highway/city drive

I put a new gauge cluster in mine, the Escalade one with the trans temp gauge. When I first put it in I thought it was not working, it took driving around for about 15 mins before it registered at around 100 deg. I had to haul a bed full of wet dirt the other day and it only got up to around 150 deg. Most of the time normal driving it runs around 120 deg.
