Volant/FIPK

Been running a K & N for awhile on my 04 Z71 Sierra. Had an opportunity ti get a Volant so switched them out today. Drove it 200 miles. Mileage appears to be about the same. Volant is much quieter because the filter is in a box. Performance....I can see no difference. Maybe with time I will but not now. I can see that the Volant will definately induct cooler air but does it really make a difference?? School is still out.

Well don't know if there was no interest in the topic or ya'll are just waiting for me to update the results....

Went on a 2000 mile trip with the Volant installed las week..FL - Chitown and back...truck ran great but the mileage was down about 2mpg. over the trip I took to PA with the FIPK. Only explanation I can come up with is that colder air gets you more power but less mileage......

I see no noticeable difference in performance between the two but there is a different mileage difference. I'm going back to the FIPK tomorrow and will see if the mileage comes back up....school is out.

mobeydick,

There is an interest on my part, but I was waiting on the sidelines for a comparison that you might present. I like the appearance of the Volant product, but the eventual winner would be the one which would out perform the other. Both gas mileage increase and performance would sway my end purchase. Neither product is a minor investment, so the above would also play a big part in decision.

Keep us posted and thanks,

Roland

I put the FIPK back on this morning and drove it 80 miles. There was an immediate jump in mileage. Didn't even take time to "relearn". On a trip to PA in August I averaged 19.2 mpg for 2200 miles. On the Chicago trip last week it averages 16.5. Today was back at 18.8. :flag:

Soooo.....it sure seems to me that the FIPK is more efficient. I see no difference in performance....sotp. I'll stay with the FIPK.

I like the look of the Volant but on my truck it is not the set up I want. If anyone wants the Volant I'll give them a great deal.

Most likely, not. You should sign on as a supporting vendor if all you're going to do is plug your product.

Mobey,

I had the same experience with my K&N FIPK and stock airbox, I averaged 2 to 2.5 MPG better with the K&N.

So you are claiming a 1.01 second decrease in the 1/4 mile, at LESS mph, from a 6 lb/ft gain in torque? Scan in the Time-slip, or post a video or something, as well as a dyno chart and picture of the product you're peddling. It sounds like you must be calculating your times with a G-tech or sensor reading (i.e. autoenginuity) setup, because the horsepower and torque values sound like more of an estimation...

What were your 0-60ft times? Is the truck 4wd?

1/8 12.23 secs. 68 mph to 1/8 11.23 secs. 71 mph?? 1 exact second?? Yeah...

1/4 17.65 secs. 83 mph to 1/4 16.64 secs. 81 mph w/airboz??

Last I knew I was reporting the mileage difference I saw with two similar products. BUT....

I'll tell you what!! I'll sell you the Volant and then you test it and report the differences to us......deal? $150.00 and you pay the shipping.
