Just ordered a DuraMax!

Recommended Posts

There are currently some good incentives from GM and Uncle Sam so I ordered a new tow vehicle today. It's a Fire Red 2005 GMC Sierra HD (crew cab, long bed) with the DuraMax motor. I've never driven a DuraMax until today and I have to say that I'm very impressed! You can kind of hear the motor at idle and while accelerating but that pretty much goes away during normal driving. I consider my '02 HD to be fairly quiet with the 8.1 motor, headers and Corsa but I can hear that truck more than the DuraMax. It's also easy to tell that it has close to 600ft-lb of torque at 1600 RPMs (flywheel power :tear: ).

It would figure that I'd decide to get a new truck after getting the '02 where I want it so I'll end up doing alot of the same mods to this one (8-9" lift, 37-38" tires, power mods, audio/visual upgrades ect...). The good thing about diesels is 100+ horsepower is only a turn of the dial away :loser: I should see this something in December.

In case your wondering I'm not going to have 3 trucks. I'm actually going to be selling the HD and Suburban. I like the Suburban but I really don't drive it to much. It's only traveled about 9000 miles in 3 years so it spends more time sitting in the garage than it does on the road. I'm just going to combine the best of these two into one.

2002 8.1 Silverado HD - Full Throttle lift, 37" tires, 4.56 gears, Comp Cam, TOG headers, Volant induction plus more! Heads, cam and intake manifold upgrade coming soon!

2002 8.1 Suburban -Intercooled Whipple supercharger, 22" wheels/tires + more - 407hp/558 ft-lb torque at the rear wheels - 13.93 @ 95.79 MPH

Thanks guys!

I'm sure there will be alot of people that are willing to take the Suburban but it will just be finding the right one to buy it :tear: I think I got spoiled when I sold my first Suburban. I put it on E-Bay and it was sold in 3 days. I thought "hey, this is how easy it is". After that it's a quest to find someone that is interested in vehicles with the mods that I do.

This will be a good reason to list more diesal parts and there will still be plenty of love shown for the 8.1s.

hell, that suburban is a show truck in my opinion, if you sell that to a performance head and put a 75shot on it, holy **** im sure that thing could go even lower for a 7000 pound truck, id put the goodies into the suburban though, youve got stock intake and stock exhaust with a supercharger, thats 50 hp to be had right there especially with the paper filter, and congrats on the new truck, i drove an 03 with 520 and i just remember grinning the whole time :tear:

Thats a bummer!! I was wanting to see how your 8.1 would do with the intake, heads and cam install!!! I was hoping to do the same to mine after the warrantee runs out!

Oh well, the Duramax's are okay too.. :tear:

I was ready to go with the heads, cam intake but those parts were taking to long (two more weeks and then two more weeks). I ended up scraping that project and that probably ended up being a good thing.

The Suburban will be the first truck that I work on selling but if someone wants the HD I won't say no to the sale. The Sub breaths through a Volant induction and TOG headers and has split tailpipes that exit under the bumper but the muffler is stock.

The #2 will own you!

You will have to get "hip, slick, and cool" with the diesel lingo.

#2 - Not a bowel movement, it's pump diesel.

DA - No longer Density Altitude, it's a Duramax with Allison trans.

Limp Mode - Not erectile disfunction, but what happens to the Allison when you get crazy with the HP.

Boxes - Not a "hoe", it's a plug-in performance module.

Drugs - Not what you find in your kid's underwear drawer, it's Nitrous, Propane, or Water/Methanol.

Stacked - Not 40D's, it's when you use more than one box or tuner.

So...

Now that you've been learned:

"My DA on drugs went into limp mode, but when I stacked 2 boxes on #2 it didn't."
