480+ HP from a 5.3L - Car Craft

Recommended Posts

It's been a while since I've look at the car mags. Well, I saw in Car Craft Magazine where they took a 5.3L Aluminum SSR engine and got 485HP out of it normally aspirated.

Problem is that this was part 3 of the article. In the beginning of this part they recap a little about the article parts of past that there was a 100HP gain over stock just by changing CAM, Springs/Valves, headers, and moving from 25lb/hr injectors to 30lb/hr (of course recurving the ECM fuel curves for them) all the while maintaining the stock heads, intake and 75MM throttle body.

Has anybody read the first two parts? Did they mention costs?

I've read them. I subscribe to CC. I don't recall costs, but as you probably know, HP ain't cheap. The cam, heads, etc are Lingenfelter Performance pieces. Pricey, but how fast do you want to go? I'll check the articles again tonight and post prices later, if they are available.

Well, got home and took a gander at the first installment. No prices mentioned. The second installment shows the LPE heads going for $1595 + ($600 core if you don't have a core). The LSX intake is near $800. Like I said, HP ain't cheap, but it is possible. That's all I can find in the articles.

Heres another thread on that Craft 5.3 build. They used LPE cams. One was about as nasty as the T-Rex and one was pretty mild.
