Air dam extension

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed that the '05 (I think) Tahoes/Subs/Yukons have a little air dam extension on them?

I went and got the P/N off one and ordered one from GMpartsdirect a few weeks ago. It came to around $21.00 with S&H. I noticed the biggest drop in gas milage right after I put my body lift on. It was 2 or 3 months before I added the 285's though. I'm pretty sure it was because of the extra suspension component that were in introduced to the air stream. I'm currently on my first full tank of gas after adding the extension, so I'm curious to see if it helps the mpg go up just a little.

Not the greatest pics, but it's all I have for now.

The P/N for the Chevy is 10359404. The ones o the GMC's were off by one or two digits, but they looked idendical to me.

It did not come with any mounting hardware, but did have two little nut plates on the end. I hapen to have a coule bolts from Lowe's that worked with them. I attached the rest using some stainless steel sscrew I had in my work shop. Everything is mounted directly to the bottom lip of the main air dam, no drilling or screwing into metal.

Hey Tom,

I will be awaiting your mileage report from this. It looks cool and just might work. Do you know if it will work on the Tahoe Z71 airdam I have on my Tahoe?

I don't know if it will or not. Doesn't the Tahoe Z71 air dam have a spot in the middle that sticks down lower than the rest of the air dam? If so, it may require some modifying of one or the other pieces.

I noticed than only some of the new SUV's had them, but not all. I didn't notice anything on the window sticker than said what it was though.

They have one that will fit the '03-'05's,as a matter of fact the '05's come with them (along with tow hook covers) but your lower bumper valance has to have the tabs and holes to mount it or it won't work,I put one on my '04,but I had the tabs and holes needed on the lwr. valance to mount it. My buddy has an '03 and his does not have the tabs/holes needed.

Buy the way the GM part # is 10386198 which lists for $26.88.

The one I have is suppose touse those tabs too, but I don't have them. I slide the extension on the original lower valence and attached it with screws. The did drill two holes, one on each end of the original lower plastic valence, for the bigger attach bolts that go there. I'm not too worried about losing any ground clearance. It's not enough that will effect where I need to go.

I want one of these airdamns -- but, yeah, looks like it might not fit my Tahoe's Z71 airdamn, huh?

I checked my factory set up last night. It's not straight across on the bottom. I suppose this piece can only be mounted up to a factory airdamn that has a flat, even lip along the bottom... Is that the way it appears, given the way it mounted to yours?

Thanks!

Ah....With a little finesse, and a little sweat, maybe a B.F.H and a dremel....You can make anything fit. :banghead:

:banghead: I agree.

I've never seen the Z71 valence up close, but I can tell you mine is smooth/flat and the extention piece is also.

Hmm... I hear you, but I'm not going to have at this one with a dremmel or anything! LOL The modification would be a little extensive. I'd be more inclined to just get a "standard" lower bumper piece that could accomodate the air d**n piece first...

Oh well.
