Gibson Super Truck Exhaust, Sierra 1500

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Maybe I should post this question in this forum. I'm considering purchasing a Gibson Super Truck exhaust for my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500, extended cab. I understand that it's louder than their other products, but I'm not interested in being the loudest truck on the block. I'm considering it because I like the styling of it, plus I want a more aggressive sound, versus stock. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Joe

the super truck exhaust is going to resonate a lot and its going to sound someone with a chopped up muffler, if you want something aggressive then i would go for a dual split rear system with some huge tips, if you want the side exit then route 2 to one side, or you can route it to in front of the wheel, also dont think you just have to go with pre fabbed systems, you can buy a muffler and take it to a shop and tell them where you want it to exit

So I looked into a little, and quickly came to an issue:

If I'm going to buy a muffler (online or at the muffler shop), I'm going to want to ensure that I like the sound. From what I've read, I'll most likely go with a Gibson muffler. Now, if I buy the muffler, bring it to the shop, and have them fabricate some pipes, I'm still going to want the pipes to exit out the passenger side before the rear tire. Plus, I'll still want the square tips. The issue is, what have I gained by doing this? Ordering the exhaust system on line provides me with everything and I can install it myself. Having the exhaust exit so close to the muffler is what increases the sound (unfortunately), so I think some custom pipes routed to this location wouldn't be any quieter.

I guess what I would really like to know is if someone has heard these pipes, inside and outside the cab, and could tell me if they're really obnoxious.

Thanks.

I have them. The resonance is only bad when the exhaust gasses are still "cold", which fades quickly. They are a little bit louder than most, but that is what makes the unique. The sound is deep. Imagine a slightly louder than stock Z28 SS. They have a good rumble quality to them.

Installation was a breeze. One bit of advice: Jack up the back a bit and drop the spare tire to the ground. You will need the extra room to wiggle the stock line out.

The only disappointing thing about them is Do Not Believe the Picture on line. The muffler and piping is not that brilliant, shiny thing you see. It is the color of galzanized steel (look at a common chain link fence - flat silver/gray). However, you can shave by the tips - like a mirror and will nick the crap out of the fingers when washing the truck.
