Free leveling rear drop...?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am a newly converted Ford guy. I am really wanting to level out my truck, and I've heard that you can do it for free by simply flipping your leaf springs??? I've never messed with suspension, so I really don't know what to do or even where to start. Is there anyone out there that can confirm this method, and give me a little more info. I'm curious if it's ok to lower this way, or is it a "Shaddy way".

Thanks,

alright first flipping the leaf springs isnt good.. you dont want the springs going under the axle if im thinking right thats what would happen... well at least on the s-10 blazers its like that but i know for a fact it isnt the smartest thing to do.. what i would do is check out DJM Lowering kits they are really nice! we are currently looking for one for a 02 chevy avalanche but we dont want to loose the $ 600 self leveling rear shocks.....

Contrary to mis-information, you can flip the rear axle with a flip kit, but it will drop the rear a full 6". You'll need a notch to be able to get any clearance between the frame rails and the axle. If you just want to level it out, then go as stated and get some 2" drop shackles. You can do it yourself in the driveway in about 1-2 hours time. It's really easy. I did mine myself, but now it's not low enough for me. I just bought a 2/4 drop kit from McGaughy's and will be putting it on this weekend.

Not saying anything bad about this forum, cuz it's great, but if you are into sport trucks and lowering, the guys over at fullsizechevy.com are really helpful in this area. Good luck with what you decide to do.
