Will an LS1 or 6.0 fit in an 89 Jimmy??

Recommended Posts

I'm looking into buying back my '89 S15 Jimmy 4x4, and I've been wondering if I can fit an LS1 or 6.0 in it. and I've also been trying to figure out what power and torque levels the drive train will start to fail.

P.S. If I can't buy my old truck back, does anyone know where I can find tan interior parts??

if an ls1 will fit... since your gonna be doing some major stuff it sounds like, my suggestion would be to lift the body off the frame for some modification space, put a new ls2 6.0 along with the new 6 speed manual they have with it and get a good 14 bolt or something to hold the power... after that youll really have a sleeper truck, if you want some more power then put a blower on it, by the ways the ls2 has 400 hp, but with a lot of work you should be able to get stuff to fit, it might not fit on the rails properly though and the headers might be too close to some parts, sounds like a fun truck though :D:cool:

That would be cool and yes, upgrades would need to be done, but what I am wondering, is if you are going to drop that kind of cash into an engine swap, wouldn't you want something newer to do it to?

I know it'll cost alot, but buying a newer style Jimmy isn't really worth it to me because I really don't like how they look or ride.

from what I'v seen the projects cost,  multiply your anticipated cost times 4..

Well. I know I will more than likely need motor mounts, a 4L60E tranny, and stronger gears in the front a rear. The only thing that I'm questioning is the strength of the transfercase, and wether or not I could find a full time all wheel drive version (as used in the Syclone and Typhoon).

id plan on something stronger than the 4l60e, those things are weak for the 6, try a 4l65e minimum, the best thing you could do is pull a 4l85e/4l80e out of a wrecker

4wd wont happen with a 4l80-e

I'm thinking of the GM performance parts LS-1 crate motor with all the wiring and computer for a 4L60E, and pretty much just leave it as it left the factory. Click here
