Arc Burn

The upper idler pulley on my 02' 8.1 is driving me nuts,it's loud as hell and doesn't sound impressive to others!I've sprayed wd-40 on the front and back of it and it would quit for a few minutes but then gets loud again, any suggestions or am i buying a new idler pulley?

I replaced my belt at 17K under warranty. I thought it was the idler pully too, but the dealer changed the belt and the truck has been quiet ever since...

My buddy with an 8.1L has changed his belt twice in 30K miles for noise related isuues.

is it making like a chattering noise?? my 98 Z71 started doing that after I replaced the belt on it... like someone said, the bearings in the idler pulley had gone bad and it was just bouncing all over the place. Dealer repair, noise gone for good.

I just replaced the belt tensioner pulley (is this the same as idler pulley) on my Duramax. It started out as an intermittent chirping and eventually went to a constant chirping sound. Anytime it sat at idle it would sound horrible (Draw back to a duramax I guess had it been a powercroak I would have never heard it)

I could let the truck run and put pressure on the tensioner and it would momentarily stop making the chirping sound.

I replaced the tensioner from one at Action Auto Parts and it fixed it. Now it has about 500 miles on it with no problems.

After I got the old tensioner off and really took a look the puley was loose and wobbly so I never thought the belt may be part of the problem?

The price at the Stealership for the tensioner was 165.00 the price at Action was 49 bucks. I had a heck of a time finding an aftermarket pulley: Shucks, Autozone, and Napa said they couldn't get one for the 6.6?
