Bilsteins

Recommended Posts

Kennedy Diesel had them for $260 and I think that included shipping (he didn't charge me tax). They were on order for a while though through the internet, and when I tried to call, no one ever seemed to answer the phone. About a month after ordering, they finally showed up.

Must have some rough roads around there to wear out the shocks that fast. I got 55k on my truck and the factory shocks are holding up fine. Granted I don't tow what you do but I do have a 20' bayliner and haul dirt, mulch, gravel and firewood as well.

I remember living back on Pa with all the pot holes and rail road tracks that it seemed to wear the shocks faster than the nice smooth roads down here in NC.

I was told the Monroe Sensitrac are good shocks. Anyone else use them?

I put them on the fronts and should get them on the rears too. They help take out the bouncy, pogo-stick ride in the HD's. It must be the extra weight from the diesel/tranny or something, because my '02 with the 6.0L didn't seem quite as bad.

My dad put Bilstiens on his 4x4 S-10 and says it's night and day difference. He said the factory shocks were too bouncy on that little truck too. Plus, 3 of the 4 were leaking at one point, so he had the Chevy garage put the Bilsteins on instead of the OEM's under warranty with a small adder charged to him for the upgrade.

I recall reading that Kennedy Diesel was having problems getting the orders out because of a backorder that was pretty much nationwide. Not much he could do about that. Good guy to do business with. Kennedy Diesel

I hope you like the ride quality of a D-8 on pavement... the bilsteins went on and back off my truck in a week. Unneccesary harshness over the small stuff. There is no performance benefit to a punishing ride. Got them on my car now, and I hate them.  :lurk:

I'd swear that the small impact harshness was improved (reduced) when my Bilsteins went on, and the control over bigger bumps and especially with the trailer hooked up is way better. Are you sure you didn't over tighten and smash the bushings flat or something?

I made the change at 25,000 miles and found one of my factory rear shocks to have no damping at all, despite no evidence of a leak. Perhaps someone didn't put oil in it? Assuming your factory shocks are OK you might not notice as big an improvement as I did. I got mine from John Kennedy too, and I read somewhere else that he is now shipping the same day they are orderred.
