STS Turbo???? 100 horses for $4,000?

Recommended Posts

Check these guys out: www.ststurbo.com.

I guess they have kits for the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, 8.1, Chev, GMC, Hummer, and Cadillac. Seems like a nice way to add some major horsepower without the pain of installing a a supercharger. I was think ing about the whipple for my 8.1 but the install looks ugly, you splice into the wiring harness in 20 different places? I'm all about new ideas, this is one I wish would have thought of. Heres a 5.3 Z71 running 12's with a terrible launch. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215270

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I helped a friend with a turbo install on an old F-body, and I would think that a supercharger would be easier... We had to run the plumbing for the intercooler, oil lines (tapping the oil pan too), and other stuff that you wouldn't normally have to do with the supercharger. The gains would be awesome I'm sure, but it would seem like the install and tuning would be much harder than a blower.

Thats the thing with these guys the turbo is mounted underneath out of the way, supposedly the install is 4-6 hours? You hack off the muffler add the turbo and then run an intake pipe un into the motor. It seems a ton easier then a SC. The benefits of a Turbo while being easier to install then a SC. The Oil regulator already has a tap ready to go for the system on GM's new motors sp you don't need to tap the oil pan.

I don't have any personel experiance with the STS kit, but what I have heard has not been good. Other than it's location being very inefficiant, simply becuase of the way turbos work. I have heard of more than a few people toasting engines with them even though they only produce around 6 lbs of boost (don't quote me on that). I assume your are looking at this kit because of the price? It is a very nice price, but I think you would get much more efficiant and much more reliable power with some of the proven supercharger kits that are out there for these trucks.

I dunno from what I have read on ls1tech people who want that type of turbo don't seem to have to many complaints about it. I have contacted them about a kit for my 8.1. They said it can be made they would just need the truck. Once my wife gets a J-O-B, I am going to seriously think about getting the kit made for it.

Parish8 has a turbo from combination motorsports if I'm not mistaken....that thing is a beast, his videos are very very very entertaining. :fume:

It's been a little while...someone was working on a supercharger kit for the (I guess it's now the previous gen) Northstar. The article was talking about with a little work, the Northstar/supercharger setup would pump 500HP to the rea...uh...front wheels.

It would be a sweet setup for a four seat long travel suspension rail.

My Bad...didn't read it all...thought it was about a Caddy STS

you should check out parish8 on ls1tech.com, his truck is very nasty and he has lots of info on turbos Parish8

he lives near me and comes to town on the weekends to beat up on the corvettes, supras, and vipers with his truck. funny stuff.

i just sold my 580 HP supercharged C5, and am craving forced induction again. this time though, i'm going to do a turbo. either i'll be putting a custom kit (like Parish8) on the 2500HD, or i'll buy a supra or c5 and add/upgrade a turbo.

It really depends on how far or extreme you wish to take your combination. Stock unit to stock unit, the magnacharger will outrun the sts turbo set up in the 1/4. However, there are many things you can do to the sts with the right set up to make it kill the radix. Do a search on ls1tech.com. I've being alot of research there the past couple of months and they've done some amazing things with the STS. That will be what I'm going with once I get my ls6 stroked to a 402 and put in my truck

Turbo has more potential. STS and Combination both make good kits. Parish can attest to the CMS kit thats for dam sure! 627HP on ARP rod studs alone. I dont think I have seen near 630RWHP on a Radix-charged 6.0 yet. And keep in mind it takes about 75-80HP to turn a 4L80. Whereas the 4L60 takes something like 22-30HP. Im goin' the 6.0 route but not in a 402 or 408. Just a lowly cammed LQ4 with cut heads.
