th350 shift shaft seal leak

The shift shaft seal in my th350 has developed a large leak. Has anyone changed one? What does it intail? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's not hard to change (if I remeber correctly), You will need to pull the shift lever off of the shaft, BUT BE CAREFULL NOT TO BREAK THE STUD, if there is rust on the stud and nut be sure to SOAK it with a good penetrating oil such as PB Blaster....If you dont have a nut and stud on the shift lever, you will have to drop the pan and disconnect it from the inside and pull the shaft out to replace the seal.

Be sure not to mar the aluminum when pulling out the seal, you should be able to work it out w/a medium flat blade srewdriver. Then clean the shaft with very fine sandpaper or emery cloth and coat it w/petrolium jelly(vasaline) to protect the seal from getting dinged or marred and gently tap it into place....I have not done one in awhile so I'm workin from memory here, hope this helps
