4.3 is surging at part throttle.

Recommended Posts

Hey all. This is my first post. I just bought a cherry 1997 Chevy Cheyenne Extended Cab Sort Bed with a Vortec 4.3L and a 5 speed and two wheel drive. I did a search first before I posted (learned that from thirdgen.org) and came up with nothing.

My truck idles fine, and WOT is perfect. But it has a slight surging at part throttle while accelerating. I checked the plugs and they were new as well as the wires. I have not checked the rotor and cap or anything else.

I can hear the fuel pump from the bed of the truck, it sounds fine but I am not sure if its supposed to be heard or what.

I read on the site about 96 being the last year for the "spider" somthin-or-other 4.3L and mine is a 97 but I do not see 6 individule injectors and it apears to have upper and lower halves to the intake manifold.

I am wondering what sensors typically go bad and what-not. The truck has 93,000.0 on it and other than that it runs like a top. I want to put on a set of headers and a cat back but I need to get it running perfect before I do all this. I also want to learn more about the newer FI systems and I need to know if the headers and cat back will work with the factory computer.

I fell off the face of the GM map around 1993 and have not learned about the new stuff since then. I have been devoting my time to restoring my 87 TransAm, and driving free POS old cars that other people didn't want. With my first home purchase last year, it is time to get a nice truck to have around for home projects.

Any help with the surging problem would be greatly apprieciated.
