7.4 Vortec - Torque management, exhaust upgrades

Recommended Posts

Good Day,

Starting to upgrade my 1999 Suburban with the 7.4 Vortec. How much "torque management" does GM have dialed into that era truck?. Do any of the handheld programmers reduce TM?. Also looking at possibly upgrading the exhaust with headers and cat back. Looking under the truck, the pipes seem pretty smooth and large for stock. Also the muffler is huge. The exhausts systems I've starting to research (long tube units) are Gale Banks and Walker Dyno Max. I'm not looking for 5500 rpm gains with loses below 2500 rpm. Even while towing, I rarely get into the 4000 rpm range for very long. I'd like to get any feedback on the 7.4 Vortec with exhaust upgrades showing some dyno numbers. Butt dyno's do me no good. Banks claims up to 70 hp, but they don't have any dyno sheets showing the hp and torque curve. Just trying to decide if the exhaust upgrade is worth the cost. No future plans to supercharge the truck.

Thanks
