Give your input, 1/4 mile style.

Recommended Posts

Finally got to the drag strip tonight, this truck of mine has 3.42 gears, so I know this is slow. But give your input on what improvement besides gears would give the most for the buck.

I made 3 passes, 1st and 3rd pass were with tow/haul button on. Thanks.

1st / 2nd / 3rd

R/T .193 / .077 / .100

60' 2.591 / 2.607 / 2.636

330 6.899 / 6.926 / 7.006

1/8 10.503 / 10.513 / 10.649

MPH ------ / 25.36 / 23.54

1000 13.554 / 13.569 / 13.723

1/4 16.173 / 16.198 / 16.353

MPH 85.16 / 84.97 / 84.86

When it hit second gear, broke the rear tires loose, was on street tires at the time. There was a glitch on the first run, timeslip said that the MPH at 1/8th mile was 68.80, so that is why it is blank on here. We know that could not be right. Let me know what your thoughts are even if you have nothing to add.

Not bad for ext. cab truck, first is to get a Westers and get torque management off, there are people getting a full second off their times, two, soften the shift, that is costing you time when you lose traction. However, the 1/8 mile MPH times are not 25 mph, it should be around 55 mph. Keep on working on it.

your 1/8 times sholud be in the 60s

Ive got an 04 with the 4.8 going to the track friday if the weather permits. Plan to run shorter tires to change my gear ratio to around 3.90 from 3.42, got some Goodyear Eagles(slicks), hope to get some low 10"s in the 1/8.

about your times... they are pretty good. You do need good tune or programmer. It will let you turn your engine higher a shift later or sooner which ever you need. Every one says westers is good but if you cant afford it o with a predator.

10.50's in the 1/8 isn't bad. My old truck was a 01 2500HD reg cab with the 6.0 and bone stock it ran 10.50. I'm sure a tune, cold air kit, and an exhaust would have at least put me at 10.00 in the 1/8. I haven't run my new truck, but I do think it's faster even though it weights 3 1/2 tons. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. Let me ask this question. When you guys leave the line, do you roll out of the hole at half throttle and then mash it? When I staged, I brake torqued it, and then mashed the throttle when the last yellow light flashed. Just looking to see if there is a better way.

Just got back and did ok for what I have. It was good and cool to night but I still havent got my colder T-Stat so I think Heat soak was a factor  .

60 Ft 2.50 2.64 2.56 2.52 2.55

330FT 7.08 7.21 7.24 7.19 7.21

660FT 10.85 10.95 11.04 10.99 10.97

mph 65.56 66.12 64.96 64.97 65.06

The first 2 passes were on the stock predator perormance tune. The last three were with the fuel and time and rev-lim turned up. My first pass was good I think because the truck was cold. I got my tire today but no wheels for them yet. Hope the lower profile tir will up the torQue some. Also the first pass I hit the rev-limiter in first before it shifted, the second pas was with the tranny is 2nd gear :jester: . I think with a cooler T-stat and the proper adjustment on the tune my truck is capable of 10.7 or < with the stock tires. I may get high 9's with some shorter race tires or gears. But may just spray it with 50 or 75  .

Hey only got beat by less than .9 by a f-150 lightening  .( so what if he was spinning)

any got ideal on what the times on a k2500hd ext cab with the 6.0 and 5speed would do. guessing traction would be hard with the ext cab. used to do a lot of street racing, but I'm older and wiser, well older. knoxville dragway does a bring your own thing occ, be cool to try. any ideals on how to make it faster with out alot of perment change that wouldn't be detrimental. sorta like ice bags one the air/fuel lines. :jester:

Folks:

Went to the Carlsbad, CA track and while I can stay neck and neck with a ZO6 6-speed though the 330 ft and and I am about 0.2 to 0.6 second slower at the 1/8th than the Z06. The best I could do was 14.46 at 95.33 MPH.

By the way, do you know what a 13 sec corvette looks like at the end of the quarter?..........................................real small!!!

Regards,

Durkin :cool::jester::thumbs::lol:
