Whats your top speed hauling w/your chevy

Recommended Posts

I was curious on your guys top speed such as hauling or carrying rig? with my 02 HD Duramax i can get 75 on interstate hauling my two axle H Trailer loaded with hephers, Horses, etc... my most loaded was hauling about 7 horses back of my trailer doing close to 70 just on highway and about 75 mph interstate speed limit i couldve hit 85 tops but the speed limits is as it is. As with my truck, a 02 crew cab Silverado Heavy Duty equipped with Duramax/Allison best combo made.

yeah its crazy but when your in a hurry your in a hurry, but i mostly do it three times hauling livestock cause it gets tiring go back and fourth every day to pick up a another load so i figured why not carry all at once, so far it saves me time and money back and fourth on trips but the duramax handles it pretty good.

We towed about 10,000lbs of roofing shingles for the neighbor with a rented trailer that the rental company swore up and down that it would hold 11,000lbs.

We got up to abotu 45 and nearly lost the trailer. I pull over and look @ the trailer, Max axle weight was 6000lbs and 11,000 on the TOUNGE.

We kept it around 30mph for around 40 miles, aired the tires up to around 90psi  and eased our way home.

Poor trailer went through hell I'll tell ya that much.

When we brought it back, they rented it back out and loaded up a pretty big backhoe on it. I was thinking to myself good luck pal...those bearrings are toast...lol

C5HD is it cause your rig is lifted or the heavy shifting winds. Sometimes my truck is a little unstable when i got the trailer moving back and fourth hitting highway bumps but on the interstate roads its fine a little gusty when passing other trucks but other then that its alright.

With my 02 2500HD Crew Cab Long Box 6.0L I get the 4 place snowmobile trailer to 70 to 75.. But the gas starts to go fast. I noticed towing the 3,500 pound pop at 68 I get 1.5MPG bettter.. I will slow down 2mph to get that much better MPG... 13MPG towing 3,500 with a gas motor is not bad at all.. I will have to try it with the 5,000+ 4 place this year and see what happens...

You haul livestock doing 75?? :smash: Sorry, but that's a but nuts. I don't even haul the backhoe that fast, and I don't have to worry about it moving and shifting the weight.

Good luck to ya...

I don't travel far with my boat so max highway speeds with that is usually about 65. I pull a 24' enclosed car hauler at 70-75 with my Sububan. It weighs about 10,000lbs and the truck has no problem at that speed. I'll go up to 80 once in awhile and have pushed about 85. The truck is still ok at those speeds but the chances of something happening are greater.

Pretty dang foolish hauling livestock at speeds such as that. Doesn't prove anything to me other than irresponsibility. Make whatever excuses you want, it doesn't change anything. If you're late, its your own fault for not planning ahead better. If its a boring trip, suck it up.

If speed is that important to you, rent a car for a few days, leave it out of the picture when tooling down the road with a trailer, especially when loaded with animals.

With our 16' Haulmark loaded the way we normally run it with 2 karts is about 6,000lbs. Coming home from the race in Daytona last December it got run up to 90 but it started it get a little unstable, but not as bad as I thought it would be. This rig LOVES 80mph.
