1994 K2500hd clutch pedal hard

Recommended Posts

Okay I bought this 1994 K2500hd truck. When I bought it the clutch pedal was difficult to push in. The clutch pack was replaced and only had 20K miles on it. So the truck now has a new clutch pack (plates, springs) and slave assembly.

When I got the truck back from the shop the clutch was a breeze to push in but after a couple hundred miles it is as stiff as before. WHat could be causing this?

I have tried lubricating the shaft inside of the truck up where the top of the pedal is attached, it didn't really seem to help.

The problem might be that any grease that was put on the inside of the throughout bearing where it rides on the input shaft has worn away, making it harder to slide. Could be the release fork not being properly lubed. Is the clutch hydrolic or mechanical? Its hard to say until I get more information. Just run through the entire linkage system and see if you can pin point any possible problems. Let me know what you find.

The 1994 has the 454ci engine and 4spd with od transmission. The system is hydraulic.

I do notice when it rains out and i've driven thru a good amount of water the clutch pedal is easier to depress.

How many miles is the clutch master cylinder good for? I just need to figure out how to get lubricant behind the rubber boot.

The clutch master cylinders shouldnt be replaced unless you see leaks coming from them. Are you talking about the dust boot on the bell housing to the relase fork? You probably not gonna be able to get to anything, the tranny would have to be out to take the relase fork out and lube its main pivit point on the housing. Dont try to spray anything back in there either because if any spray lube got on it, count on major clutch slippage. Just a heads up if you didnt already know.

So what your saying is...

1. Live with it

OR

2. remove trans/clutch and lube bearing if that in deed is the problem.

If the current clutch lasts as long as the last one only 20K miles will go by before it needs replaced.

If the clutch only has a couple hundred miles on it, try takin it back to the shop that did the work....but it sounds like a lube problem to me, you can try and have the clutch release fork/ball socket lubed and see if that helps....just a guess

The clutch pedal on my '95 is very firm, been like that since I owned it. I rest my foot with all the weight of my leg on the pedal while driving and it doesn't budge. I did take the slave cylinder off the bell housing to replace the starter a few months ago, and when I took it for a test drive the clutch seemed much much easier to depress, but it gradually went back to normal. So who knows?

cedjunior, sounds like were in the same boat. Glad to know that I'm not the only one having this issue. I just wish it was an easy fix. I figure the clutch will probably go in another 15K miles because I'm so hard on it. So I'll just save up a couple grand $$ to drop in it then. That just makes me :banghead: ~
