Head unit with CD

Recommended Posts

My '99 has the head unit with cassette play and the factory cd player is in the forward part of the center console.  My question is, will the head units with the cd player work in my truck with out any other modification?  Basically just plug and play.  Will the '00 and '01's work in it as well?

Thanks.

get a mounting kit and wiring harness adapter  and you should be set.  i havent looked to see if there is any out for the new body style, but there should be.

I'm talking about a factory head unit with cd player.  I wouldn't think I would need all that with the factory unit.

Thanks.

Tom

Yes,it will definitely work as long as you have the same number of speakers as your current stereo.

There will be no splicing involved as the plug will be the same and mounting should be identical.

Thanks Frank.

Don't all the new Silverado's come with the same number of speakers?  I thought they did.

I think they do but I was just making sure that you check and see first.

I thought that you were talking factory head units but I'm glad you cleared it because after I re-read it I can see where some think aftermarket.

If you do go aftermarket, which may be cheaper, all you need is a harness adapter and mounting bracket.

Once again,no cutting and splicing involved.

I should have said that in the earlier post, but forgot.  If I get one, I'll probably try to get one from somewhere like e-bay or a salvage yard.  I have only played a cassette one time, just to make sure it worked, so I'd kind of like to have the cd player in the head unit so i could get the little cubby hole thing for the console, or possibly other ideas.

oh.. you want factory.. eww.. go aftermaket.. much better sound quality.

I'm not into stereo stuff that much.  As long as I have something to listen too, it's fine with me.  Personally, I think the stock system sounds good.  I've got nothing against aftermarket stuff though, I'm sure there is alot better stuff out there, it's just not a high priority for me.  Even when i was younger, it didn't really matter to me.  Maybe somethings wrong with me.  LOL

Thanks for the info though NeXuS1, I appreciate the help.

It has both right now (plus a 12 disc cd changer).  I just don't need the cassette player.  If I can get a head unit with cd, I can take out the seperate cd player that's in the console now and use that space for something else.

FYI....Pioneer makes a custom fit head unit for the new Silverado's.  Also, you can put a baby EQ in the slot where the factory CD player sits, that's what I did after I upgraded my system. Since the factory CD wasn't doing nothing but sitting there and I couldn't find a cover plate, I decided to put a EQ in that place, it looks real sharp.
