service 4wd light?

Recommended Posts

Hey gang, Im new here. I found this site while searching for info on my 2000 silverado/1500 4wd pickup. Anyway, I love my pickup but recently it's putting my devotion to the test.

This truck is babied and only has 30k miles on it.

Couple weeks ago my abs started to engage every time I stopped...diagnosis; rusted front hubs. Almost $800 and Im back in bidness...

Now, pull into my driveway today and my "service 4wd" light goes on for a second and then goes back out..I'm thinking, "oh boy, what surprise is in store for me now?" I have the push button/electric 4wd switching. Anyway, I try to engage the 4wd hi and she's reluctant but eventually, after some fiddling with the buttons she goes into 4wd hi. Strangely it goes into 4wd lo and auto awd without a problem.

I call the service dept at me local chevy dealer..they say, sometimes the computer just needs to be reprogrammed. Or, it may be some switch or something which is costly. Great, I just spent $800 on this thing 2 weeks ago..

Is it possible that they screwed something up when they replaced the front hubs that would cause this?

At this point I'm inclined to just drive it like it is..The 4wdlo and auto awd works which is good enough for me as I mostly only use auto awd in the winter...

Oh well, any ideas what the problem may be?? Thanks in advance for any advice..

Steve
