New motor driving me crazy

Recommended Posts

OK. I have a 1988 1500 P/U truck. We put a new stock 305 (with the old TBI) in the vehicle about 6 months ago and life was good. Then it started dying.

I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Worked for a couple days then died. No spark. Replaced the coil, and ign. module. Still not right. Replaced the MAP sensor.

It would run, but I put a spark tester on and the spark cut out at mid throttle. So I just replaced the distributor. It now has spark, but it runs funny. Like it stumbles and misses and does not have smooth power.

ANY help would be greatly appeciated.

:sigh:

Thanks!!!!

I'm not sure how much help I can be on this one, but I'm wondering if the TBI has a throttle position sensor on it? Since thats really the only thing left from the old motor, I would look into that....

Yes that is what it is called , a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)

If the TPS didn't change things might try new spark plugs. I had the same thing happen to me, stubble and not run smooth and the set in the engine where only 6k miles old. Spark plugs can have spark out of the chamber but under load not fire properly. Especially if the engine was not running right from other issues. It is something to look at.
