Keys? Full Front Bumper

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2004 2500HD CC 4x4. Going to add a full replacement front bumper next week and was wondering about raising the frontend with the torshion bars or buying keys and intalling them. Give me some input.

I just cranked up my old truck(2002) about 1 1/2 inchs and it looked and handled ok. It only had a brushgard on the front and didn't have the weight of a full replacement. Do I need to add new shocks or re-adjust the old ones?

I intend to install some 255/85s on it also in the next month. My buddy bought a Z71 the same day and his truck has 265s on it. Why do they put 245s on the 2500? That is a waste of tire.

Thanks, Ranger

My guess is the 245's are on the trucks to save money... 265's in a load range "E" are expensive.

If your new truck has the plow prep package, it may already have heavier torsion bars and with some minor tweaking, it should hold the weight of the bumper.

Not much need for a snowplow in South Texas. I figure the 245s match the allison better. I had 285s on my 2002 and will put 255s on the new truck. Chevy 4x4s are notorious for wearing out front tires and you must rotate them often.

I have already adjusted the front end. One side was 3/4" lower then the other. Once I get the tool box installed that will level her out a bit, but I may still have to raise the front some.

I just had questions about the "Keys" and what they cost, where to get them etc.

I put Warn's Heavy Duty Bumper on my HD with the plow prep package and just tweeked up the bars an inch over stock. Did this about 6 months ago and no problems so far, the bumper/grill guard weighs about 400 lbs.

You are correct there is no listing for GMC. The only thing I can think of is it says it is custom shaped for the grill.

Contoured to follow the shape of the Chevy and Dodge grille and body, these bumpers look custom made. And they offer real protection. Its one-piece weld design incorporates a tubular grille guard, brush guards, round light ports and a concealed winch mount.

So maybe you could fit it but would have to modify your bodywork to do so? For some reason they have not designed one for GMC. :sigh:

You are correct, Chevy. If you are really interested in this bumper IMO the modification would be worth it but plan on loosing 1-2 mpg. The front surface is big and flat but the quality (fit, welds, etc) is great.
