cat-back or muffler-any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Looking for a better sound exhast note from my truck.

Ordered a Magna Flow 12599 muffler,dual-in,dual-out

but when I took it to the muffler shop they said they

couldnt put it in because GM put the pipes coming

out of the stock muffler on an angle. Looking for a

direct bolt on but cant find one for my HD. The truck

has stock dual cats and pipes coming into the muffler

which are 3". Then has two 3" pipes that come out

out 8-12" into a y and then merge as one pipe into

the tail pipe section that is a 3.5". I dont want to

butcher this system by having a shop bend new pipes

and nobody around here can do mandrel bends that

flow better than the regular crimped bends.Does this

stock system flow well or is it restricted from trying

to quiet this loud 6.0? There is no way I want to

spend 450-500 on a cat-back from gibson.The only

mods I have are a 93 hot tune from westers,and a

k&n drop in. Looking forward to maybe trying the new

vara-ram air intake,if it is what its supposed to be.

There

is

nothing

wrong

with

a

custom

dual

exhaust

without

mandrel

bends

as

long

as

it

is

dual

and

the

cubic

area

of

the

two

new

pipes

is

equal

to

or

greater

than

the

stock

pipeing

.

Your cats are more restrictive than regular non-mandrel bent pipe.

Coolzr2, maybe there is nothing wrong with the everyday non mandrel bends

from your stand point, but it looks like crap to me.Plus my HD sits up there and

seeing the generic looking wrinkled up bends is not what I am after. I had

those on my last 2500 . The size of the pipes on this stock system should be

large enough to flow very well. The question is about the flow of this stock

muffler etc. The H2 has the same motor but sounds much better. I think the

problem is that trucks are very popular with alot of yuppies that dont use their trucks as trucks should be used.So they want them quiet for their daily cruise

to their cumfy office jobs. People like the rest of us want are trucks to sound

like american trucks should. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Oh, by the way this is a ecsb that really seems to cut down on the systems available for this truck. Magna-flow offers a system for a crew cab, but not a

ex.cab shortbed. I thought this was the most popular set up.
