Would 410 gears be good for my truck?

Recommended Posts

Thanks to some replys, i realize that my truck is not runnin up to speed because of the size of my wheels/tires and my gears. I currently have 22 inch wheels (sometimes will put on stock tires for drags) and 373 gears. I run 16.18's to 16.30's with the 22's and havent gotten times with stock wheels. Should I get the 410 gears?

If you are looking for a big improvement in ET times, a jump from 3.73 to 4.10 will not do that much (it would help though) Not knowing what your actually tire diameter is it is hard to say for sure what you need but a 4.56 would not be out of line and you would still have a 2000 to 2100 RPM cruise at 65 if your diameter is at least a few inches larger than stock. A 4.56 should put you in the low 15's or better if you can get hooked up right and get a good launch. I know that some claim the taller gears are good on rolling start but the "kick" is short lived and you get you A$$ kicked at the deep end in second and third gear with them.

I suggest you get multiple opinions before going to a 4.56 gear. Most guys in lifted 4x4's w/ oversize tires aren't running that low of a gear ratio. Check the outer circumference of the 22's vs. your stockers. If they are the same, it doesn't affect your gearing over stock. However, the reason your truck is slower is because the increased weight of the new rims adding more rolling resistance. I personally would not recommend going to 4.56 gears. Your gas mileage will go down the tubes.

Yes and they have very sorry performance too and a next to useless overdrive also. They should just pull the 4L60's and put in a THM400 to handle the added strain and they will not really miss the OD because it is not usable in most cases with tall gears. And, lets not forget how much it will increase performance in 2nd and 3rd gear too on acceleration and towing too. Personnally, I like to be able to fully use all of my gears in my tranny unlike some others.

Like said before, especially if thats your daily driver don't get 4.56 gears. If your wheels are 22 inches and your probably running low profile tires, the total diameter of your wheel/tire isn't that much different that a standard 28" tall tire, maybe an inch or 2 more depending on the tires you got. Its most likely the extra rolling mass.

You have been shoveling this BS on every post or question on gears..It's easy to tell by reading your post you are inexperienced in this area , Why are you misleading the peeps. Here is some actual and real information,.I actually gained MPG's by installing 4.56's. I t takes the truck so much less effort to go from 0-70 MPH it's amazing. Like I stated before ,I would reccomend 4.56's to anyone running 33" od tires and up . The 4.10's would be a minimum.

If you get 4.56 gears and are runnign 22" wheels you would basiclly be running a 4.10 gear ratio! It might not be exactly 4.10 but it will be close because If I put 20's on my 4.10's Ill be running between 3.73 and 3.90!!!!!! There is a gear calculator online somewhere do a search for it! whn I switched from 3.42's to 4.10's I gained at least 1mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the gear chart I've mainly seen was also for the 4th or 5th gear being 1.0 ratio. Most 4 or 5th gears in a tranny are around the .70 ratio, so that chart proves to be a little false. I dunno if it's the same as the calculator a previous poster found.

I don't get why 1/4 mile times on a PICKUP TRUCK are even talked about.

Hey guys, what can I do to get my dodge stratus 4 cyl to make enough torque to stay locked in OD so I can tow a 28 foot Haulmark trailer loaded with drunk knomes?
