Custome Catback Exhaust vs Exaust with Kits

Is there a difference in performance from local shops that have customizes exhaust that carries performance mufflers like Magnaflow/ FLowmasters/ Borla than the Performance manufacturer having their own exhaust kits? I find it cheaper from Local shops customizing their pipes than just buying a kit that can be well over $500. Any opinion?

I went the custom route and saved a good bit over what the kit from magnaflow cost... I can't remember what the kit cost right off the top of my head...

 

Prices I paid though:

Stainless Magnaflow muffler: ~$130 shipped

Tips (2 stainless): ~$70 shipped from ebay

Shop Install and pipe: ~$80

Total: $280

 

I am really happy with my setup and the overall outcome...

Hey Fastdrv, I think you convince me to go your route instead of getting a catback exhaust kit. Too pricey.
