Weld Sidewinder ??

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking real hard about Weld Racing Sidewinders for my 01 2500 HD. I'm gonna keep my Michelin 285's. It seems the preferred spec are:

16 X 8 Wheel D/W

8 X 6-1/2" Bolt pattern

4-5/8" BS

0mm OS

5.515" Center bore

Anyone know what center cap options will actuall fit. The Weld web site leaves a little be desired. I would like the hubs fully covered. I like the cone, but I doubt you can get them for 3/4 ton with the center hub sticking out.

Any pics or recommendations would be great.

I have the cones on my Stonecrushers and I think they look great, much better than the cheaper lug covers that came with the wheels. They fit fine and are the easiest part of the wheel to keep clean. My problem with the Stonecrusher is all the fake bead locks and bevels on the holes (keeping them polished).

I have the 8 lug, 16x8 Stonecrushers. If my memory serves me right the backspacing is 4 5/8ths. If needed, I can go back through my files and find the receipt. Mounted on the truck, I found the front wheels stick out noticebly further then the stock PYO's. I suppose it is due to a wider wheel and the backspacing. As for pictures I just got a digital camera and am trying to figure out how to use it. At some point I am hoping to post some pics.

Pancho-Pics would be nice. I've been to every truck site I'm registered on, but no Weld Racing Sidewinder pics. I've seen one or two with Stonecrushers.

I thought the same thing when they first came out..." I'll bet those bead lock protrusions are hard to keep clean"...., they look cool though.

I could probably get the specs from Weld website if I had the part number from your receipt.

Thanks,

Pancho-Thanks for the part number. You could always e-mail me some pics by clicking on my post name. I would like to see those cone center caps on the same kind of truck as mine.

Wingnut-Thanks for the pics! Even though they are on a D@&$e, they still look good.

I'm kind of spoiled on the clearcoated factory PYO's. They are very easy to keep clean. I put a little wax on them when I rotate about every 6K. I'm a little hesitant about aftermarket wheels because of several maintenace issues I've read about. But wheels really set a truck off in the looks dept.

Thanks to both of you again.

Get the cone caps you will not be disappointed, they look 100% better (IMO) then the caps you see in the pics posted.

You are correct w the care issue. The Welds are going to demand some time to keep them looking good. For me it just goes w owning a black truck, when it's clean it looks great. I made the mistake of running the Weld's through the first winter - never again. Keep your PYO's to swap back on if your in an area that uses road salt, you will save yourself a lot of work in spring.
