Which Header?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 GMC 2500HD with the 8.1 Allison combo.

Most of my driving is just stuff around town except foe one weekend a month we

take a five day camping trip. Which header would be

the best, a shorty header or a long header? My camper weighs about 8500 lbs. Another question where can you find either?

From what I have read the LTs give a lot more power under the curve which is what you want in a truck especially when towing and around town.

As mentioned by 8100HD TOGs always get a great rating as do Arizona Speed and Marine ( ASM ). Seems some people like the build quality, fit and ceramic coating better on the TOGs than the ASMs and they are very close to each other in length but the ASMs are longer.

Possible but bear in mind that LT also dump a lot more heat in engine compartment too due to much greater surface area for hot gases to contact and heat and this extra heat is not always wise in a tow vehical. I would go the shorty route if you want heades as it will reduce and balance backpressure on cylinders over what you have now and dumb less heat under hood and most use existing exhaust piping as well for a cleaner install

I run a ceramic coating, inside and out, on my long tubes for my race car.

SIGNIFICANT reduction in under hood heat.

It helps but is still dumps a lot more heat the stock manifolds due and most engine compartments are hot and "tight" enough!
