PROGRAMMERS

Recommended Posts

I have a Superchips 2280 chip not a microtuner and it has been great for me. The truck has a lot better driveability and throttle response and much crisper shifts without being too harsh unless I am really on it. Using a G-Tech Pro Competition I have measured a .98 sec improvement to 60 mph @ 8.65Sec and a .67 decrease in the 1/4 to 16.18 sec @ 89.8mph. :D These are the differences in 5 run averages from stock. I have to run 91 or higher octane.

Today a lot of people also like the tuned PCMs done by Westers, Nelson and PCMForLess to name 3.

Before my Westers I got ~10.7mpg - city driving. With my 93HOT tune I get ~11.5mpg. I have got as good as 13.7 driving it easy - not gunning it or going over the speed limit on the HWY.

i know a lot og y'll like westers. but, i want the flexability to re-tune if i change any perameters on the truck. i agree that westers sound to be the way to go, but i do not want to fed-x chips to canada if i change anything on the truck. i tow about 20% of the time from 9000ft down to 2000ft, here in new mexico. hypertech sounds like the way to go.

thank you.

If your looking for a handheld unit check out Superchips or SPE Proflash...stay away from Hypertech...you will not be happy with it..especially while towing. Your best bet for noticable gains is a supercharger/turbo kit as they are less affected by altitude...you will notice some change with the programmers, but you will not see the gains that are claimed due to your elevation.

you can get your westers retuned for any mods as many times as you want (he does charge $45 for shipping/handleing) Also, when you sell your truck you get him to send you a stock tuned PCM for the old one, and he'll credit what you were charged for the original tune for a new one!!! :D

sorry, for a 2002 2500hd 6.0 4:10

I've got this same setup. The Westers did very little for performance on my truck. And it did nothing to improve mileage. About the only real area I can tell it improved was that the truck shifts a quicker now.

It was the 87/89, or 87/93. Something like that. It was supposed to be able to detect the difference between regular and premium, and adjust itself accordingly. Didn't seem to matter what kind of gas I used though -- the performance increase was still unimpressive, and the MPG improvement non-existent. Shame too, because not only do I want the extra oomph, with gas prices what they are I could sure use 1 or 2 more MPG's.

I was very happy with the results of my tune from Westers Garage. I used to have the Superchips (or Superchit I call it) and it had something there, but not enough for me to validate spending $350 on. When I switched to the Westers Garage PCM tune, I was blown away and received what I was missing with the SC tuner. Plus most handhelds are limited on what they change, whereas a PCM tune can change every parameter to give you more. Just research it more and choose whats best for you. I am confident you will choose Westers due to it being a great product with great service behind it, and a great warranty policy to boot.
