Octain boosters

Recommended Posts

I'm considering using a form of octain booster to, well increase my actain level in my tank when I pull. I usually can only get 91 and rarley 92. There is on station though that has leaded race fuel (110), is that safe to burn in my 2002 6.0L? granted I plan on mixing it like 50/50.

snoman,

Yep very familar with toluene, as used it daily(among other solvents) when working at a coating and converting (labels) plant. I know it is on the Prop 65 cancer list (along with a LOT of other stuff you'd be amazed at). I used it in my camaro because it was 120+ octane and I got it free, since we bought it by the truckload. You also have to watch breathing the stuff as it is the base for airplane glue (toluol) and as you can imagine pretty flammable altho has a higher flash than MEK or acetone .

You can actually buy it in cans at paint stores but the ready made mixes are easier and if I needed to boost octane now, that is what I'd do.

Little would surprize me as I take very little at face value. Very few "solvents" are safe. I had a friend that died from lukemia after working with Tolulene for years. His doctors said is was a big factor or cause in the type he had.

Everything has a LDL-50 attached to it now... I've worked with it for a year or so before changing jobs, but my dad and my brother worked with it for years and years and thankfully no problems from it, but it can be nasty.
