Canadain Body Lift Kit

Recommended Posts

Anybody ever do the Hockey puck lift,I'm just looking for 1 inch, alittle extra clearance for 285/16's not that they will rub the fenders, should be easy enough, and I don't see any problems with anything moving the body one inch. How about some opinions on this maybe I missed something.

Thanks Steve

BTW No offense to the northern brothers. :seeya:

that probably wouldn't be the best idea....a two inch PA body lift I bought a couple years ago cost, about 90 bucks.....I would just spring the money for a real kit. No use killing yourself, or your truck, besides I couldn't imagine what some pucks would do to your ride comfort. If you want a little extra clearance....buy some new torsion bar keys......and crank those bad boys up....

The only problem with the "keys" is that it through suspension geometry off (and alignments) and accelerates wear on front ends joints too. A mild body lift to gain clearance for bigger tires will do neither. Beside a "hockey puck" lift would not effect ride and make it more harsh because all you are doing is place hard rubeer betweeen existing frame and body mounts and their cushions so it will add no harshness. I think it is a interesting idea actually.

hey man...your truck not mine, I would rather buck up and pay for polyurethane(sp) bushings that I know can take a beating, than use hockey pucks. Hockey pucks are nice and hard when their frozen on ice...but I'm not sure how well they'd hold up to the heat and the beating they would take with as body spacers.

I guess my thinking is I've spent a pretty good amount of money to buy my truck and make it how I want it, I'm not gonna skimp on 100-200 bucks for a body lift. I see it kinda like wanting a CB antenna, but crafting one out of a coat hanger, and some tin foil to save money.

Did some research on the subject, and found that if you do it, use Candian pucks...the quality is better, and throw a metal bushing in the hole you drill through the puck, otherwise they'll wear out quickly.

You taking it too personal. I said it was a interesting idea not the final word. I would use big metal washers in top and bottom frame/body mount contact areas though. Stock mounts are rubber too. Beside, even "if" you had to replace them after several years you would still be money ahead!

I heard that hockey pucks will rot with time and fall off. Just my 2 cents.

I cranked the t-bars up front one inch and put in a 1" block (home made) in the back. 285/75R16 fit with no problem. I get what you're saying about the clearance though, would be nice.

Hey

I like the coments from you guys, yea I go for the stock look also thats why I only want to go an inch.We used to do the canadain lift when I was growin up in Buffalo,But we used 4 pucks under each mount! along with the 6 inch blocks in the springs,Back then who gave a rats butt, took it out and beat the crap out of it anyway.

Yeah, bad idea on the hockey pucks. I know some people used to use them but I heard that it wasn't a very good idea and they tend to break apart. Also on these new trucks, it just isn't that simple as bumping the body an inch. With these modern trucks, the new body kits are well engineered. Not only does the body come up but there are several other brackets you need as well, like the brackets for the front and rear bumpers, the emergency brake cable, lowering the fan shroud, lowering the tranny cooler. I'm sure most of these you haven't thought about. I don't think the clearances are that large enough for you to get away with only bumping up the body. In the long run the body kit is the only way to go.

Now I don't know about the 04 but on my NBS 99, no lift was required to to get 285's under there. Had 285's on stock rims, no rubbing, did some minor off roading with the suspension flexing and still nothing. Ran those for about 6 to 8 months then did a body lift basically for appearance only.

So if your only looking for an inch, I would say forget it, not worth the trouble and 285's work with what you have. Do a search, a lot of others on here have the 285's without doing any lift.
