Bed weight capacity

Recommended Posts

OK I am making about a 1500 mile trip with my bed all loaded up for the big family vacation....I got Costco Duty since I have the truck(drinks to be exact) I broke down my list and I figure to be carrying somewhere between 1600 and 2000lbs of drinks. I checked the stick on my door and my rear axle capacity is 6084. I assume that's with my stock tires.....now Ihave my 325's on there with a load rating of D. I'm having a little trouble with the math, and what goes where. So am I gonna be able to carry that amount...1600-2000lbs in the bed??

thanks for your help

I assume you have a 2500HD based on axle capacity. I have a 2000 K3500 SRW with same rated axle capacity and I carry as much as 3500lbs or more durring winter in it in salt and ballast for snow plow. (I had about 4400lbs once in it and it was not maxed out and handled braked fine) Your 2000 lbs load is nothing for that truck. Beside that axle will go well beyond 6000lb capacity in a pinch and tires or spring will most likely fail for a severe overload before axle does. You should be fine on tires up to about a 3500lb payload or so too. It would take well over 6000 lbs in the bed of that truck to break or bend something.
