Transmission Question---

Recommended Posts

This has happened twice now. First when I got the truck and it had only 200 miles, and again this afternoon, with 1470 miles.

When at a stop---after driving, and when taking off it feels like the truck is in neutral and then slides into drive. For example, I can ease on the gas and feel the truck make 2 bumps forward like it's slipping on wet pavement, then it will get traction and take off. Any ideas?

I took it to the dealer a few days ago for the rear leaf spring snapping..."cant duplicate problem" Just my luck. Since this dosent happen all the time, I may get the same results until the transmission just falls out..lol

I'll check the fluid today after I drive around a bit.

It has a cooler, it shouldnt be getting that hot. I havent even towed anything yet. It is in the 90's with super high humidity but that shouldnt be an issue. I'll keep an eye on things...

Mine does that on occasion too. First time it happened I thought the truck had gotten rear-ended it was so sharp. And, like you, the dealer says "no problem found". But it IS a problem, because you (and me) are certainly not the first people to experience it -- I've seen this same thing posted by many others.

My '01 had the same problem. Some times it would "chirp" the tires when it dropped into gear.

I took it to the dealer, and he actually could duplicate it!!! It also acted up on the Technician too...

They reflashed/programmed my tranny over a a year and a half ago and the problem has not re-occured.

I really do miss the old non ECM controlled automatic trannies. I like the shifting on my old 89 700R4 better than on my 2000 4L80E and the shifting on my originail THM400 in my J20 jeep is even better yet!
