Does any one have a clunk felt through the steering column?

My son can hear it from the passenger side. Does anyone no what it is?

My wifes 2000 suburban had it also but noes seemed different. Dealer fixed it

and it hasn't come back. My noise started at 15,000 miles. My truck is a 2003 2500hd LB 6.0 vortec.

Thanks, Chris B.

I think the more accurate question would be; does anyone NOT have a clunk in their steering? Seems like a huge number of us have this same problem. GM has a lube kit, and a new steering shaft, but neither really solves the problem. Just poor engineering would be my guess. Maybe there will be a recall, like the one for the tailgate cables.

Good Response Jim........My 03-2500HD (4x4) has a similar knock to what you guys are describing. IMO....lube will not fix the slop allowing steering shaft to clunk around. My truck only has 13,000 miles, and I know it will only get worse. Typical american/mexican made crap.

Back in the early 80's....every friend of mine that had a GM (i.e. Chevy or GMC) truck similar to mine (i.e. 4x4, 3/4 ton), and used it for ranch work (i.e. off road and cattle hauling), developed severly worn support bushing in the steering column, the problem was located on the inside of the cab. There was never a recall or TSB issued for the fix.

My truck, although I love it, has way to many problems.....As soon as the Jap's start making true full sized pickups, I'll be buying something other than American, I'm tired of this BS.

I've had my truck just over a year and

1.) 4x4 select module has gone out, dealer replaced at no charge, but it's still a hassel and waste up my time, which is not compensated for.

2.) With just 100miles on the odometer....the truck just decided to die and left me stranded. 2 hrs. later she decided to start and she never repeated that again. But I'm still waiting, and it gives me a $hity feeling everytime I have to make a long trip.

3.) Steering wheel shaft has slop in it.

4.) Front bumper is rusting from the inside.

5.) Faulty tailgate cables.

6.) Faulty brake wiring (tailer wiring harness) if you if you haul a trailer with brakes, tailer brakes will activate when you turn the lights on. There is a TSB for this one, but the part (harnes) is still not available.

JUST ONE BIG PIECE OF $HIT AMERICAN MADE TRUCK......SORRY GUYS, AND I KNOW I'M GONNA CATCH SOME FLACK FOR THAT STATEMENT.

For those of you who BUY american, because you think it's good for the country (and it is), think about where GM, FORD, and DODGE decided to have there crapy vehicles assembled. It ain't America. I know, I grew up and still have a home in Laredo, Tx. You should see the 10's of thousands of new cars and trucks that cross the border every single day. I stopped feeling guilty along time ago.

gilbert, i have to agree with you. i had a 99 1500 that i traded for my 03. im having some of the same trouble with the 03 as i did with the 99. you'd think in 4 yrs GM would of gotten their act together.
