H2 wheels (load rating?)

Recommended Posts

I've sorta been thinking of getting a set (5 - so I could do a 5 tire rotation and have a matching sized spare) of Hummer H2 take off wheels. Does anyone know the load rating? It seems I read that it was somewhat low, but never actually heard a number. As long as it is about 3000lbs they would work.

I wonder if the 305/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R would fit my 2001 2500HD 4x4 with just a torsion bar crank and some trimming. I know I've seen pics of a truck with the H2 wheels and 315/70/17 with only minor rubbing. The deep backspacing of the H2 wheel looks like the key here. Best part is they are much cheaper than custom wheels and (I think) look pretty good with the GM truck center caps.

Any thoughts?

I think I'm gunna take the plunge soon and try this combo. I found a place on Ebay that will sell me 5 Hummer H2 take off wheels (with center caps) shipped for $281.25! Where else are you going to get a set (plus matching spare) of 17x8.5" aluminum wheels for this price? I checked with a local Hummer dealer, they wanted $200 [a piece] for H2 take off wheels. I think I can make the Goodyear Wranger MT/Rs (305/70-17) fit with a little trimming, a little more torsion bar cranking (green keys if needed) and maybe a 1" block in back (I like the back to sit about 2" higher than the front). If I had too I may install a 1-2" body lift, but that would be a last resort. I've seen pics of several 2500HD's running the H2 wheels with the 315/70-17 BFG's that came on them, those tires are about 1/2" taller and wider than the MT/R's I wanna run.

What does everyone think? Will this combo work well or :puke: ?

I'm not sure of the load rating on the wheel. I read somewhere that you should go by the truck specs. I think the H2 is rated around 8600 and the 2500HD is at 9200. The wheel rating should be somewhat close. I am thinking of getting some of these also. It is a great price for some aluminum rims that are wide enough for a decent tire. I planned on 285's, but I have seen 305's fit.

I just placed the order for my 5 new H2 wheels!!!! $281.25 for the set shipped with center caps! Check out the ad from Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2481572237

I just ordered over the phone and skipped the whole paypal ordeal

Also got a price quote from a local tire shop on a set of 5 GoodYear Wranger MT/R's (305/70-17 or 34-12.2-17). $1,112 mounted and balanced (this is before my discount---Dad works for GoodYear). It would have cost $1140 shipped from TireRack and I would have still have to of had them mounted and balanced.

Just finished cranking my T-bars a little more, the front is 1.25" lower than the rear right now, but I'm gunna add the 1" Zero rate leafs (blocks) from ORD. Now just need to get some longer shocks, trim the airdam, tie back the parking brake cable and maybe lower the front "jounce" bumpers. The "Torque Monster" will look like a real 4x4 soon.

Others I have seen use the Chevy or GMC center caps. The Hummer caps don't fit either the front or the rear hub. Just an FYI.

Let me know how they turn out with the big tires.

Yeah, I know they won't work over the rear full floater hubs unless you use wheel spacers, which may be an option given the deep backspacing of the H2 wheels. I'm sure I'll end up running the Chevy center caps from my PYO wheels (I think they look better than the Hummer caps anyways). If only these had the auto inflation/deflation system like the H1 (as the H2 caps simulate), but I'll be happy just to get some real rubber under this truck (the 265's look tiny with the torsion bars cranked more)

I had the Hummer caps on my wheels without any trouble at all.

tps:

You fit the H2 caps on the rear of a 2500HD? Did you have wheel spacers on the rear or modify the caps?

Also, I see you have the 285/70/17 MTR's on your truck, did you consider the 305/70/17 but think it would take too much cutting?

I forgot that I did put the spacers on. i did it a while before I got the wheels that's probably why they fit.

I went with the 285s because I was afraid that there would be rubbing or cutting and I didn't want either. I really like the way it turned out.

Before I traded my GMC in, my GMC dealer took my wheels, tires and spacers off. If you want the correct track spacers, can have them for half of their list price which is $350 plus shipping. www.correctrack.com . I used them for about a year. $175 plus shipping and their yours.

I believe I read on the dieselplace forums that they found the H2 rims are only rated for 2500lbs. I'll see if I can't find that thread. After reading that, I decided to pass on the H2's due to the wieght of my 5er, and get 16x8's that did have the capacity...
