S-10 Clutch Issue

Recommended Posts

Maybe someone has some suggestions on my issue. I have a 2002 S-10 with a 5 speed and 4 cyl. In very hot weather and stop and go traffic sometimes the clutch will do weird things. It is hard to even explain, it is almost like you are popping the clutch but you have no control over it. The normal resistance you feel when letting the clutch out just isn't there. This is very intermittent and of course when in to the dealer it doesn't do it. But now I am within 700 miles of my magical 36k and would like to know what might be causing this. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughs I would appreciate it.

Does it feel like its slipping or grabbing ? :D

Clutches R like brakes when the get hot..the hotter they get the looser or less friction they get....of course driving habits and conditions will dictate a clutchs life..

if you do ALOT of stop and go driving its may be possible that the clutch is worn and starts slipping more when it gets HOT...But you may notice a slight burning smell from under the truck when it gets that hot...BUT not always..

I'm sure thats not the answer you're lookin 4...but then again its just a guess on my part

Personally I would suspect maybe to much moisture in the brake fluid, that's in the clutch resevior.

I would drain it completely, clean out everything you can and replace with fluid from a sealed container.

once you get ready to bleed the system make sure you are getting good clean fluid,or bleed it till you do.

At least that's where I would start.
