GM Hitch-Mounted Bicycle Carrier

Xao

Recommended Posts

I do a lot of Mtn. Biking and have traditionally used Yakima (top of the car) bike racks to haul my bikes around.

Now that I have my Z71 I was looking at getting a hitch mounted bike rack, I want to use the bed for all the camping gear, etc...

Has anyone used the GM hitch mounted rack from the GMGoodwrench accessory shop? How is the quality, I have pretty nice Mtn. Bikes ($2k+) so I need to make sure they don't slop around and are held nice and snug.

I was going to go ahead and get another Yak Rack but I ran across the GM version, it's cheaper (which may indicate quality), I just wanted to check thoughts, experiences, etc... with this rack if avail.

Thanks!

BTW: A link to the GM Website for this rack is: GM Hitch Rack

I don't have the GM bike carrier but I did look through the accessories catologue at my dealer a few years back when I was considering one. If memory serves me the carriers are made by Swagman

I ended up getting my dad's old carrier for free

This is a cool topic for me to add into. I work in a bike shop. I've got an 03 silverado z71 with a yakima hitch rack. the gm is not a real quality rack. Go for a Yakima Kingpin 2 if u are looking for a 2 bike rack. Dont pay more than 160 for it and dont expect to get it for less than that because the prices are set by yakima. Yakikma!! Its a quality rack!!!!

Im also carrying over 5000$ in bikes on my rack at one time!

haha you'd think insurance would cover that crap but they dont... it blows, i bought a new bike for about 1450 a year ago, and i had the bike locked to the rac with a 3/4' thick cable and someone used bolt cutters i guess and got it off the rack.

The yakima and thule racks kick some butt!
