Fog lights on 8.1

Recommended Posts

I guess they are not fog lights I guess they are really called dring lights? My 2001 8.1 2500 just got out of the body shop after having the front clip replaced. Well the morons tried to put a 6.0 liter clip on it. Obviously they found out that won't work. When I went to pick it up I noticed that they still used the 6.0 liter air dam below the bumper. When the truck went in the shop it did not have the clear lights in the dam and now it does. It appears the plug-in for the lights were already there but they don't work. My first question is where is the swith located on the 6.0 liter trucks and secondly is the plug there already behind the dash that would turn them on and off. And third is this all that needs to be done to make them work.

No vehicle that I'm aware of that's sold in the USA has driving lights standard or optional. They're all fog lights.

I'm confused about what you mean regarding the front end though. Are you saying the trucks with the 6.0 have a different nose then the ones with the 8.1 have? If so, what's the difference? (other then the lights, which were the same no matter what engine you have)

The switch wiring should be behind the left side of the instrument panel (near the headlight switch) and you may have to install the relay and fuse to the underhood fuse panel.

Points of note:

The 8.1 and the 6.0 front ends are the same - same part numbers and everything. Just a cutout for optional DRIVING lights w(which is available on both engine builds)

A fog light is YELLOW. A driving light is WHITE.

Hope this helps.

The switch to turn the fog/driving lights on and off goes in the area where your cargo light switch is. Even with the switch and all the wiring in place, the BCM (Body Control Module) will need to be programmed for the lights to work. A dealership can do that for you. Go on Ebay and search for Silverado Fog Lights. You will see a few people there that sell the whole kit to put them in a vehicle that previously didn't have them. The pictures will give you an idea of what you need.

Memphis Doug thanks a lot. Since my original post I found that out. You are 100% correct and it is being down as I am typing. Thanks for the info. The dealer even has volunteered to pay for the switch and the programming. Thanks again.
