Header bolt patterns

Recommended Posts

Howdy team,

I have a 2001 6.0L K2500 'Burban and I noticed a broken manifold bolt... the rearmost on the driver's side. I've read a lot that it's common and that it CAN be a beeotch to remove. I've also been reading that most headers don't use the first and last bolt holes in the heads, but other holes that the stock manifold covers up.

Can anyone who's installed headers on a 6.0L confirm or deny this? I am looking at a set of JBA headers.

Many thanks!

My ASMs reused all of the existing bolts in the heads. Is just the head snapped off so that once the manifold is removed there would still be a little bit of bolt sticking out? Maybe then you could get a pair of vicegrips on it.

Yeah, there is a little bit to work with. I am still deciding on if I should get into it or leave it alone. I REALLY would like some headers though!

I just found out from a guy at West Coast Cyl Heads that all the holes are indeed used on my 2001 6.0L 317 head casting, just like yours. I read on the chat board for Chevy SS's (where broken exhaust manifold bolts are an everyday problem) that their heads have these extra bolt holes but I positively have to deal with the broken bolt if I plan to move forward.

Thanks!!
