Wheel Backspacing

Recommended Posts

I have a 1992 Z71. I have a 3 inch body lift with 315/75r16 Maxxis Buckshot mudderson stock wheels. I hate how the tires look so tucked up in the fenderwell. It makes it look smaller than it is. I was curious if someone has some info on what size wheel (16x8 16x10?) with what type of backspacing will make the tires hang out of the fender wells some. I also plan on adding a six inch suspension in a month or two so i will be eventaully getting bigger tires so i need to amke sure the wheels are the right size so i can move up in tire size without having to buy a 325/75r16 tire b/c they are rare and exspenive. Any info is great

I have 35's on 15x10's, with 4.5" on backspacing. They stick out about 3" wider than the fenders. If you want to measure for yourself. Lay the rim flat on the ground (works best without tire on it) and measure from ground to the back of the mounting surface. Another way is to take something flat and lay it from the back of the rim across the mounting surface to the other side of the rim, measure to the mounting surface, that's the backspacing. Some lifts require a minimum of backspacing, make sure whatever lift you get is compatible with your rims. 4-4.5" should be what most 16x10's backspacing is. Chris

Thanks for the info but does anyone know the stock backspacingonthefactory 16 inch rims? Also i dontthink ill have any problems with thenew lift because the 35s will be so small compared to what size tire i could run with 9 inches of lift.

Do you know how to measure the backspace? lay the wheel face down onto the ground so the backside of the wheel is facing up. Take a straight edge and lay it diagonally across the inboard flange ( edge curve of the wheel.) Take a tape measure and measure the distance from where the straight edge contacts the inboard flange to the hub mounting pad of the wheel. This measurement is backspace.
