1997 454 vortec fuel pressure regulator

Recommended Posts

Well its located under the upper intake manifold(the piece the throttle body is attached to). To check it you do a fuel pressure test(key on, engine off) and see if the pressure drops after the pump quits(if pressure holds everything should be fine). If it drops you do the same test again with the return line crimped(rubber hose section between fuel filter and engine, crimp the hose that isn't connected to filter) if it holds now you need a new fuel pressure regulator. It's a real gem to get to, have to remove harness wires, evap lines, I think I had to move my AC compressor a little and then you have to remove a bracket for the coil and it fastens on the back side of the motor with a stud and a ground wire on. Its a few hours job

Fuel pressure should be 56-62psi

If you had really small hands you might be able to get at it throught the throttle body  You have to remove the upper intake manifold to replace, unless you trade in for a newer truck(New body style) and I am fairly sure they all have exterior fuel pressure regulators, why couldn't GM have had that brain storm a few years earlier :D
