Recommended Posts

hi this is my first post i have 02 2500 that has a few problems with only 17000 miles. this truck has piston slap, a whine in the driveline or rear end, rotors the keep warping, and the dealer keeps telling me that everything is normal and there is nothing they can do. between me and my wife we have owned 8 new chevys in 11 years and this is the worse truck i have owned. do any of you have any of these problems with there truck and what has gm done for you. are there any gm memos out on these things that the dealer is not telling me. and if you have piston slap how many miles on your truck and did you have any problems yet

First off welcome to the site!!! :D

There are alot of people here who have Cold Start Knock, andit hasn't seemed to affect the engine... it just seems to irritate the crap out of the owner!!! GM has programmed their dealers to respond with the "Normal" answer when they are questioned about it. Some people have complained to the Customer Service (1-800) number and GM has offered a free 6yr/100K warranty.

Your brake rotors shouldn't be warping, and I'd say that is not "Normal".

The whine in your driveline is probably a backlash problem in the ring and pinion. Your dealer should look into that for you...

GUYS.........Keep getting your oil change for $19.95 at your local GM

dealer and have them keep writing it up to check CSK too.

Or they will come up with the "wrong filter or oil" excuse.......

Then bug GM customer service NICELY with all your work order #s

and get your FREE 6yr/100k engine warranty ! (Like ME!)

Never a problem here with warping rotors tho.......Even whipping this

puppy snowplowing and HEAVY towing ! No driveway queen here !

Trail.....Sure the wheel guys didn't mess up when you got your bling

blings over tightening with impact wrench ? NICE lookin' tho!........geo

The rotors and carrier were replaced w/ 1200 miles on the truck. It's an '03 2500HD 6.0l. They put a new engine in about 1500 miles ago when there was 6 on it for a warm knock and a cold clatter at ~ 1500 - 1800 RPM's. This was as a customer service move and NOT acknowledgment that anything was wrong. Both the knock & clatter are back 1500 miles later. Wishing I still had my '96 w/ a 5.0L. Best d**n truck I've ever owned. Mine has also had a driver side rear window replaced (water leak), master cylinder replaced (leaked), parking brake mech replaced, passenger side mirror replaced (heater no worky). Now it's going back as the rear seat material is pulling away from the head rest guides, tailgate latch only moves on one side, the tailgate itself is getting all out of whack as one latch is wearing down pretty good. Still some nasty wind noise/leaks coming from somewhere and they still need to repair the leather from where they scraped it last time they had it. I know I easily left out a few other items that have been fixed under warranty.

If you have a slam in rear end its a bad slip yoke had that go on mine. I say the 02s are the worst truck made. If you do a search on my name there should be a list of about dozen or so major issues I have had with my truck. Now I am starting to get a knock in the engine when its running.. When my payments are done on this truck or the problems get worse I will be trading the truck and getting a FORD... Yes a FORD...

And the answer to everything is its normal. Yup that fuel pump you hear inside the cab with the windows up is normal. Drives me nuts... They have the answer already in their head before you walk in the door. Its normal. Its normal that the brake system fails twice in one year. Its normal to forget to put parts on the truck. Doesn't matter someone could have been killed GM simply doesn't care. :D

The CSK and lifter taping noises are common on these motors. I have the 6.0L and have a little bit of both with almost 62,000mi on my truck. I can honestly say that my truck runs great though. I have a Westers Tune for my truck and other than that is stock. I have been running synthec oil in the engine since it had 6,000mi on it. I am currently running Amsoil 10W-40 and it seems to help cut down on some of the engine noise. As far as rotors warping I have had no issue with that. My truck is an 01' though and maybe there is a difference on the 02's, but as far as I know they use all of the same parts. Unfortunetly the most dealers will respond with the "this is normal" or "it is within the factory specs" just to get out of having to put their money into your truck. Your best bet is to call GM directly or ride your dealer about these problems since your truck is still under warranty. I drive my truck 24,000mi plus a year and I am going to keep running it till it drops. I take good care of it and I hope it will last over the 200,000mi mark. Every manufacturer has their problems, but it does not change the fact that is annoying to the consumer to have to deal with these issues on a new/newer truck or car for that matter. GM was supposed to have corrected the CSK issue on the 04's. Anyone have an 04' with CSK?
