Lift, Tires, 18" wheels

Recommended Posts

I am new here, and just spent the last two days pouring over all 52 pages of this forum and have learned a lot.

I have a 2001 GMC 2500HD crew cab shortbed 6.0. I am lifting it 6" with a Tuff Country kit. Questions Ihave are: I would love to put 18" wheels on it. I have picked out AR Woverines. there are 18X9 with 5 BS. With a 35X13.5X18 ProComp Xterrain. Will this work? Will the BS not rub a ton? I can not find to many 18" wheels and even less tires. Any suggestions would be great.

I was going to sell this truck and buy the Dmax, but decided to lift this one and would still be into it less than the Dmax. I tow only a couple times a year, 22' travel trailer, with a 4-wheeler in the back of the truck, and it has performed fine.

Am also wanting to do an exhaust. Wish for more performance, than sound, but sound is also a factor, maybe to hide the tire noise. Read here, there are lots of options. Would probably prefer more low end for the times that I tow.

Any other suggestions on tires, wheels, ect. would be apprecitated, 18's are what I would like, but I'm not stuck on it. Have seen a few around, and they really look good. Thanks.

You could look into Nitto tires and Toyo tires. I think they might have some 18" all terrains, maybe mud terrains too. With that tall of a tire you will most likely need a gear swap also. You would need to go from the 4.10 to atleast 4.56, maybe 4.88 to have the same performance that you have now.

The exhaust is a tricky question on the 6.0. Alot of people have experienced bad resonance with aftermarket exhausts. Do some research on that. Some have had good results with Spintech mufflers, but no real specifics on what muffler and pipe size yet.
