DMAX MPG?

What kind of MPG is everyone getting on there DMAX? I drove mine to Southern California back the first part of March from Portland and got about 17MPG. I have heard of people getting 21 MPG+ on the highway. Is there something I should be concerned about with mine or what.

 

I am getting about 15 in the city right now and 17 on the highway. With the cost of diesel now up and over 2.00 bucks a gallon I am starting to pay close attention to this stuff.

How many miles on it? Being a 2004 I doubt it has very many so I doubt it is broken in yet. 20+ MPG didnt come here until about 30k miles. It has 35k on it now and it is still getting better.

Put the Instant Fuel economy up on your DIC and leave it on under all of your driving. This will help you adjust your driving habits. I.E. Use the Allison to help you slow down for stop signs and stuff. By theory, the less brakes you use, the less fuel you'll use. Also on the highway, fuel mileage with the duramax goes downhill very quick after 70 MPH.

It does for any diesel that I've ever owned really.I get 18.5-19 on the freeway at 80 mph.If I slowed to 65 mph it would probably get 20+.I have 33's and a plow attachment up front with a CCLB so my mpg is is a little off some of the guys with smaller trucks.

I wonder what a 6-speed regular cab 2 wheel drive would get at 60 mph. :crazy:

Oh how I love fuel mileage stories. The bigger the better. Truthfully I get 14-16 in a combination of driving city/highway (I never drive all highway or all city) and 10-11 while towing the camper. Saw a little over 17 once that was about 250 miles of almost all highway driving. I know I'm on the low side compared to what people report, by mine is honest and accurate - NO BS. And when I look at a truck that is loaded with power and tips the scales at 6500+ lbs, I don't feel really bad about what it gets. I've got about 12K miles on it now.

The custom tuners like Wester's are getting 4-8 MORE MPG in the DMaxes, along with huge increases in torque and HP! Might be worth checking into!

You guys are drinking the Westers kool-aid way too much

 

You just posted a claim of a 20-40% increase in mpg's from an engine that usually delivers 18-20mpg's, highway. It’s just not realistic for any HiPo tuner or tune.

 

I would like to address Westers when talking diesel - Please correct me if I'm wrong but Westers has just started to sell HiPo programs for diesels and offers a 50HP power setting for around $500, a 90HP setting for $800, or a combo of two settings for $1200. Is that such a great choice to go with when a product like Juice offers 4 power settings (40, 65, 90,125 HP plus attitude monitor) in one unit for $900? Juice is the gold standard in the area of medium performance tunes for the Dmax (medium ='s 0-135HP)

 

I know you guys love Westers; and for a gas engine he's one of the best, but for diesel applications he's going to have really perform the 4-8 mpg miracle to outperform Edge, Quad, Diablow, VA, etc. in power options, overall options, mpg's, and cost. Until then, Lyndon is not a serious player in diesel. Please don’t think that I’m trying to be aggressive with this post – that’s not the intention, but Lyndon has a lot of work to do to be a leader in an already established market - and erroneous claims of such a drastic increase in mpg’s does not establish credibility. It’s misleading. Thanks for reading.
