Mass airflow sensor

Recommended Posts

I took the pickup to the dealership for some work and they said that Cheverolet doesn't recomend K&N Gen II intakes becuase the oil on the filter can pass through to the Mass airflow sensor and cause the engine to not perform properly. Has anyone heard of this and if so should I replace the sensor? Thanks!

You do not need to replace it nor does it hurt the MAF. But it may need to be cleaned because the oil from the filter does coat the filaments of the mass air. This can make your truck run slightly lean. By all means you can still run a K&N filter or aftermarket intake.

K&N's do cause problems from time to time from oil, usually spraying non-residue electrical contact cleaner on them will clean the MAF up, if it gets bad enough the vehicle may have a revving idle when cold and may eventually set a DTC for MAF sensor performance. But if you take care not to over oil and clean the MAF from time to time it shouldn't cause any trouble.

DO NOT TOUCH the elements of the MAF with any tool or fingers, it may damage them
