2001 Duramax/Allison Trucks. Reliable?

Recommended Posts

My dad has one, has 86,000 miles and he has had no probs with it what so ever. He is also still amazed at its power. BTW, I put a 50HP Westers Tune on it over the weekend, and according to Lyndon this was the first one that was ordered for a D/A here in the US. My dad farms and drives alot checking his fields and such, so he was interested in seeing what it would do to his mileage. I'll let yall know how it goes. Also, another interesting point......After I installed the tune on his truck, we raced a couple times from 0-100....His Duramax walked away with ease from my 93 HOT tune.

I had a 2001 k3500 dump truck. The first cab & Chassis I saw. I put 34,000 miles on it in 35 months. It went to the shop too many times, mostly small stuff, but still expensive stuff. I traded 3 days before the warranty expired. My 2002 k3500 D/A CC is trouble free and my 2004 D/A SC K3500had two rear fenders crack WAY to easy ($2700.00)

I had no problem walking the 2003 DMAX/alli.......of course he may have been a lousy driver  Not sure about the new LLY motors though, they seem pretty bad a$$.

Hi Linda,

Please remove that chip on your shoulder about everyone wanting to compare diesel to gas. This thread is a diesel thread, so it shouldn't be a surprise that owners of the Dmax may brag about stomping on gassers - let alone their own gasser. :chevy:

Wasn't there someone here a while back that had a transport company that had a couple Dmaxs over the 400k mark?

Hi,

if memory serves, his name is Brokers. He claims to have a fleet of high mileage Dmax's that have tons of miles on them. He also hangs out on The Diesel Page and The Diesel Place

You guys think i would go wrong with buying a 01 Chevy 2500HD D/A 4x4. Im thinking about salein' my 01 Chevy 2500HD 8.1/Allison, 108,000 Miles.

How many miles are on the '01 Dmax? Less than your 108K?

Hi Machine,

I have no chip on my shoulder, its under my hood....and besides, i gotta stick up for my gasser brethren. I dont have any animosity toward the chevy diesel guys...i like to feel i can poke my head in what ever thread i like and speak my feelings, as long as its done in a professional manner. I dont think i was being harsh towards anyone, and if anyone took it that way, it wasnt intended. At the end of the day we are all chevians here, whether its done with diesel or gas.....it aint no thang.

oh, i dont think you could go WRONG, so to speak "8100 POWER". Given you are inspecting the obvious things that need be inspected. The diesel will give more longevity than the 8.1L if its maintained correctly. Is it a one owner? Do you know the owner/owners and if they took care of the vehicle? Did you do a VIN check on the truck? Take it for a spin and drive it like you would your own truck, and see how it feels to you....thats the best way to tell. Take it to your local mechanic if thats the route you want to go, and have him give it a look over. If its well maintained and normal conditions apply, i think you would be very happy with this truck.
